Fans of felines, fetch your spare change! An illustrated book of poetry—A life amongst cats— is now available at Inspirations in Quathiaski Cove.
Two Quadra Island artists have combined forces to produce the 80-page volume, which includes dozens of original poems and cats-at-their-best illustrations.
“Chris Thompson’s poetry swings from hilarious to heart-wrenching, and Sophie Whittingham’s drawings are rich with charm and character,” says Marnie Griffiths, who volunteered to coordinate the project for Quadra Cat Rescue. “Pounce on this chance to get a first edition and pick up a couple extra copies for family and friends. This is a book people will enjoy over and over again.”
An illustrator and storyboard artist, Sophie works from her Quadra Island home for companies like Disney+ and Dreamworks TV. She was inspired to donate her art because of her two cats.
“My partner and I can’t imagine life without Gary and Shaun,” she says. “And I’m very glad programs like Quadra Cat Rescue exist to take care of our local cats, giving them the homes or support they need.”
As for Chris’s motivation? Cat’s got his tongue.
Quadra Cat Rescue extends huge thanks to both Chris and Sophie, and to Ruth Powell for volunteering editing and layout skills, and Lara Fraser of Inspirations for covering printing costs.
Copies of A life amongst cats are available by donation. Recommended minimum is $15, and all proceeds support Quadra Cat Rescue’s efforts to reduce the number of homeless cats on our island. Along with offering a lower-cost spay-neuter program, the group raises money to provide vet care for stray cats and kittens and to buy food for felines in foster care.
Tax receipts are available for donations made by cheque or e-transfer. People who shop at Tru Value can also support the group by donating Spirit Board points (280 at both Heriot Bay and Quathiaski Cove) and buying Tru Value gift cards for either store at Inspirations.
